Richard B. Bernstein, M.D.Richard B. Bernstein, M.D. grew up in New York City and attended Hunter College in the Bronx of the City University of New York, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Zoology and Chemistry. He then attended Medical School at Upstate Medical Center, State University of New York in Syracuse, New York, where he received his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. After receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, S.U.N.Y., New York, he remained at this institution for one year, at which time, he completed his Internship in Internal Medicine. He then went to Boston University Medical Center, where he completed a three-year Residency in Adult Neurology and served as Chief Resident of Neurology during his final year of Residency. Following his Neurological Residency, he was then drafted into the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma, where he served as Staff Neurologist at Reynolds Army Hospital with the Rank of Major, and received an honorable discharge after two years of military service. Following his discharge from the Service, he has practiced Adult Neurology in Private Practice in the City of Atlanta, Georgia, and continues to do so, to the present time. Richard Bernstein, M.D., successfully completed all requirements for Board Certification in Adult Neurology and was named a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Board Certified in Adult Neurology). Subsequently, he received the distinct honor of being named by the American Academy of Neurology as a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (F.A.A.N.), an honor held by only a small minority of Neurologists at Academic Institutions or in Private Practice. During his career as a Practicing Adult Neurologist in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the initial and sole Staff Neurologist actively involved at the Shepherd Spinal Center and his duties included being Co-Director of the Spasticity Clinic at the Shepherd Spinal Center, in addition to providing all Neurological Consultations on all inpatients at the Shepherd Spinal Center. While a staff member of the West Paces Medical Center, he was named by his Fellow Physicians as Chief of Staff in 1990-1991. In 1996, when the International Summer Olympic Games were held in Atlanta, Georgia, Richard B. Bernstein, M.D. was asked by the International Olympic Game Organizers to be the Neurological Consultant for all the Olympic Athletes and their trainers. Richard B. Bernstein, M.D. was named by Atlanta Magazine in 1999 as one of the "Top Neurologists" in Atlanta, Georgia based upon voting of his medical peers within the City of Atlanta and its environs. From 2001-2004, Richard B. Bernstein, M.D. became the Neurological Consultant for the Atlanta Beat Women's Professional Soccer Team. From 1999 to the present time, Richard B. Bernstein, M.D. is the Neurological Consultant for the Atlanta Thrashers Professional Hockey Team of the National Hockey League (N.H.L.). Beginning in 2005, Richard B. Bernstein, M.D. was named the Neurological Consultant for the Atlanta Falcons Professional Football Team of the National Football League (N.F.L.). From 2001 to the present, Richard B. Bernstein, M.D. holds the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology, Emory University School of Medicine, and he is active in the education of the Neurology Residents. |

Barry J. McCasland, M.D.Barry J. McCasland, M.D. was born and raised in Connecticut and attended college at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts in 1990 majoring in Psychology and graduating cum laude. He attended Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., earning the degree Doctor of Medicine in 1994, and was thereafter inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, Medical Honor Society for physicians. Dr. McCasland completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the Washington Hospital Center, also in Washington, D.C., and a three year residency in Adult Neurology at Emory University and its affiliated hospitals, serving as Chief Resident during his third year. Dr. McCasland’s professional efforts since training have included Private Practice Neurology in Atlanta since 1998 with Dr. Richard Bernstein and since 2010 with Dr. Brown. Dr. McCasland served on the Ethics Board at St. Joseph’s Hospital in 2006-2007. He is the official neurologist for the Atlanta Hawks basketball team. His special areas of interest within the broad field of Neurology include diseases of the nerves and muscles and neurologic conditions involving the eye. |

Gavin F. Brown, M.D.Gavin F. Brown, M.D. was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He went to Southern Methodist University, where he majored in Psychology with departmental distinction, and gradutated cum laude. He attended medical school at the University of Texas, graduating in 2005. Following this, he pursued Neurology residency training at Emory University. He was chief resident during his final year of residency, after which he stayed at Emory for an additional year of neuromuscular fellowship training. He joined Drs. Bernstein and McCasland in 2010. |
